Invited keynote speakers confirmed their attendance to the Conference
The WESTPAC Conference Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that all Invited keynote speakers have confirmed their attendance to the WESTPAC 10th International Scientific Conference.
Six prestigious scientists and notable marine science-policy makers will share their long years of knowledge and provide their valuable perspectives in view of the current and emerging challenges that the regional ocean communities have been faced.
Dr Michael James McPHADEN, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will highlight his remarkable knowledge on “Causes and Consequences of the 2015-16 El Niño”.
Professor Bin WANG, from the University of Haiwai, will share his valuable information on “Dynamics of Western Pacific Subtropical High that Shapes Predictable of Summer Monsoon and Tropical Storms”.
Professor Zakri ABDUL HAMID will headline the conference with his distinguished experience in linking science and policy on “Science-Policy Nexus in the Governance of Marine Biodiversity”.
Professor Fangli QIAO, from the First Institute of Oceanography, P.R. China, will present his innovative researches on “Scientific Advance in Ocean Observations and Modelling Techniques”.
Dr Shige TAKADA will emphasis on his outstanding research of “Marine Plastics and Microplastics-Threats to Marine Ecosystem”.
Dr Vladimir RYABININ will demonstrate the global perspective of the Indo-Pacific linkages to the world oceans under the topic: “The Broad Science Agenda of IOC and WESTPAC: from a Healthy Indo-Pacific Ocean to the global sustainability”.
Following the previous best practices, WESTPAC has been inviting prestigious scientists and policy makers from within and outside the region to address the international scientific conferences (formerly known as the WESTPAC Symposium) based on the key thematic areas for the region, namely 1) Understanding Ocean Processes and Climate in the Indo-Pacific, 2) Ensuring Marine Biodiversity, Food Safety and Security, 3) Maintenance of Ocean Health; and 4) Enhancing Knowledge of Cross-cutting and Emerging Issues.
Keynote speakers were identified through wide consultations among marine scientific communities in the region.
