Activity: MOMSEI Capacity Building


MOMSEI treats the capacity building as one of its high priorities. During May 2010 and May 2012, there were two summer schools organized respectively in China and Thailand.

The first MOMSEI Summer School was hosted by First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Qingdao China, in 25-30 Jul. 2010. There are 11 trainees from 5 countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and China. This Summer School invited 4 lecturers, among who 3 are from China and 1 from US. The lectures covered the tropical climate basics, remote sensing and marine techniques.

The second MOMSEI Summer School was hosted by Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), Phuket Thailand, in 15-18 Aug. 2011. There are 20 trainees from 8 countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and China. This Summer School invited 6 lecturers, among who 2 are from China, 2 from Thailand, 1 from US and 1 from Germany. The lectures covered the monsoon dynamics, coral biology and ecosystem, ocean observation and dynamics.
